Read to Succeed Buffalo (RTSB) and the Buffalo Chapter of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) Society are partnering once again for the 9th annual golf tournament. The tournament will be held August 14, 2023, at Transit Valley Country Club.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the CPCU Scholarship as well as Read to Succeed Buffalo. RTSB believes that through exposure to high quality, intentional literacy instruction and language-rich environments from birth through 3rd Grade, all children, regardless of economic or social challenges, can achieve success. RTSB accomplishes this mission by providing literacy coaching and quality improvement support to practitioners in child care, Head Start and grades Pre-K through 3rd in Buffalo City Schools.

This year’s event kicks off at 11:30 a.m. with lunch for registered golfers before the 1:00 p.m. shotgun start for the tournament, which is a four-person scramble. At the conclusion of the tournament, golfers and guests are invited to enjoy a cocktail hour and dinner. There will be basket raffles and a silent auction open for bidding throughout the day featuring a signed Thurman Thomas jersey. Gently used or new children’s books will also be collected to donate to participating RTSB programs.

Interested participants can register as an individual golfer for $200; an individual golfer who is part of a foursome for $200; or as a complete foursome for $800. Included in the registration fee are 18 holes of golf with cart, a hole-in-one contest, as well as lunch before the event, cocktails and dinner following.

There are varying levels of sponsorship still available, ranging from $100 to $2,000. Sponsors to date include Life Storage, HUNT Insurance, Roosevelt & Cross Inc, SAN Group, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, USI, and Towne Auto.

“This tournament is RTSB’s biggest fundraiser of the year and we are so very grateful to the incredible members of the CPCU Society who work so hard to make this event so successful – it is truly a fantastic day!” continued Ryan. “100 percent of the proceeds of this event go to funding scholarships and the programs of RTSB.”

“We couldn’t ask for a more deserving charity partner for our tournament than RTSB,” said Will Pekrul, chair of the CPCU Society golf tournament committee. “Thanks to the generous contributions by our corporate and individual sponsors, we are proud to continue our support of RTSB and its invaluable promotion of early childhood education in the Buffalo community.”
