Read to Succeed Buffalo Celebrates Read Across America Day

Buffalo, NY - Read to Succeed Buffalo (RTSB) held several "Dr. Seuss reading parties" today for approximately 400 young children from Buffalo's east side Promise Neighborhood in celebration of Read Across America Day, an annual initiative promoting the importance of early childhood reading and honoring the 111^th birthday of beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss.  

RTSB had toddlers and preschoolers from several community based child care sites on hand for reading events throughout the city of Buffalo's 14215 ZIP code, including Highgate Heights Elementary, Westminster Community Charter School and Buffalo Promise Neighborhood Children's Academy.  The events featured read alouds of favorite Dr. Seuss books lead by RTSB Board members and community volunteers. 

Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program, sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA), that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading in observance of the birth of beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss. Read Across America Day is part of "Read Aloud Month," a national initiative in which thousands of organizations across the country sponsor "Dr. Seuss reading parties" and other related events to promote early childhood literacy.                       

"RTSB is thrilled to participate in the Read Across America program which raises awareness to both educators and families about the importance of a literacy-rich education at the earliest age possible," said Anne Ryan, executive director of Read to Succeed Buffalo. "This is a fun and educational way for us to promote reading in our youngest children while celebrating the wonderfully written works of Dr. Seuss."
