Business First of Buffalo

Read to Succeed Buffalo has received a $115,000 funding boost from the John R. Oishei Foundation.

The grant supports operations in 2012, and follows previous grants from the foundation through a collaboration between Oishei, the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo and the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation.

The organization works to prepare children for kindergarten and the early grades through improved exposure to literature-rich environments, aligned curriculum and assessment strategies. Read to Succeed also helps teachers to support the individual learning needs of their students through child care and Head Start in the early grades.
Read to Succeed led recent efforts to develop the All-America City Grade Level Reading

Community Solutions Action Plan, addressing critical areas for improving student achievement and third grade reading scores. The plan allows Buffalo to be part of a national campaign and also serves as Buffalo's application to be designated as a 2012 All-America City by the National Civic League    in July 2012.

Nearly 150 communities across the country are competing for the designation.
