BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Concerned citizens and leaders say it's time to tackle illiteracy.

Saturday they met for the Right to Literacy Convention at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Buffalo.

Historic demonstrations showed how important reading was to the movements that brought freedom to African Americans and other oppressed people in America.

Young people were there to take in that important lesson.

According to some sources, up to 60 percent of people in Buffalo have some type of literacy problem, which includes reading and writing.
